And Last but not least Gibson has introduced the new Slash Goldtop Signatures from Epiphone & Gibson Usa, the launch is scheduled for October 7th don't miss out,
here are the specs of those new beauties!

Slash

Epiphone Slash Les Paul Goldtop Signature

Each Slash Les Paul Goldtop starts with a traditional Les Paul body, consisting of a hand-selected, premium solid mahogany back based on historically-correct specifications, topped with A-grade maple.
Using a traditional roller-type carving machine, Epiphone tediously carves each body creating the sexy curves and subtle "dish" along the outer edge of the top that transforms it into an authentic Les Paul.

The neck is also crafted from premium mahogany then glued into the body using a TiteBond wood glue, utilizing a long-neck tenon typically found on the Les Pauls from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Extending well into the neck pickup cavity, the long-neck tenon provides additional strength and stability to the neck, and offers more wood-to-wood contact between the neck and body, which
ultimately results in sweeter tone and longer sustain.
The neck also features a "Slash Custom" neck profile patterned exclusively from the neck on Slash's original Les Paul and a rosewood fingerboard fitted with 22 nickel/silver alloy medium-jumbo frets.
The pickups are the same ones used by Slash in many of his Les Pauls - Seymour Duncan Alnico
Pro-II - providing the same crunch, power and performance as Slash gets when he cranks up any one of his personal Les Pauls.
The finish on the new Slash Les Paul Goldtop is the same Goldtop finish introduced on the original Les Paul model in 1952. Applying it is one of the most labor-intensive processes of building guitars, but it's worth it. There are three different coats of paint in all - a base coat of black primer, followed by two coats of metallic gold paint, which must be agitated continuously to achieve a
consistent and even coverage. Those three coats are then sealed by four thin coats of polyurethane, each one buffed to an illustrious shine before adding the next. The entire process of painting a Slash Les Paul Goldtop - from primer to the last coat of polyurethane - takes nine days! In total, it takes approximately 21 days to finish a Slash Les Paul Goldtop, and it's clearly evident in every detail and part,
including Epiphone's patent-applied-for LockTone Tune-o-matic and stopbar tailpiece, vintage nickel hardware and tulip-button tuners, fully shielded electronics cavities, 12-inch radius fingerboard, custom "Slash" truss rod cover, and the stamped "Limited Edition" logo on the back of the headstock.

Gibson USA Slash Les Paul Goldtop Signature

The new Slash Signature Goldtop from Gibson USA starts with a standard, un-chambered mahogany body with Gibson’s traditional weight relief system, consisting of a series of “Swiss cheese” holes that give it a comfortable yet heavy feel, exactly as Slash likes his Les Pauls. The body is topped by one of the Les Paul’s trademark features — a hand-carved maple top. The body is then painted with the same finish as the first Les Paul model in 1952 – Bullion Gold with an aged Cherry back.

A pair of Seymour Duncan Alnico II pickups – exactly the same pickups Slash uses on many of his guitars – provides all the power, punch and performance expected of a Slash Les Paul. The S
lash-designed neck is a solid piece of mahogany with a hybrid profile that takes the roundness of the Les Paul necks of the late 1950s, matching it with the slimness of the necks from the early 1960s. Slash’s personal skull/crossbones and top hat logo with signature adorn the headstock.

At Slash’s urging, the electronics of the new Goldtop were enhanced to include proprietary wiring, caps, resistors and tone pots that give the new Slash Goldtop its own unique tone. It is also set up using the revolutionary Plek system — a computer controlled set-up that carefully measures and dresses each fret, accurately measuring the height4 between the fingerboard and the string, virtually eliminating string buzz and providing unbeatable playability.

Other features include a TonePro Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, all chrome hardware, Kluson-style Gibson tuners, and a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity in a metal fold-over frame. The guitar comes in a custom-made hardshell case with Slash’s logo screened on the smooth black exterior, and a plush white interior.

The new Slash Signature Goldtop from Gibson USA is a fitting tribute to a true rock music legend, and one of the best guitarists to ever pick up a Les Paul Standard.

St.Blues Guitars NOW Available in Ireland for the first Time

Hi All,
great news, we just received our 1st batch of St.Blues guitars and you'll be able to try them out shortly in our George st shop and see by yourself how good they are.

What's so special about St. Blues Guitars you may ask,

well have a look at the story:

The roots of Saint Blues started growing in the late 1960's, when Led Zeppelin's tour brought them to Memphis. Jimmy Page walked into Mike Ladd's guitar shop, known for some of the best customization work in the country, and asked Mike Ladd and Tom Keckler to overhaul one of his guitars. When Page saw Keckler's work he asked if Tom would refurbish all of his instruments. Many other entertainers followed over the years. The shop, located across the street from Graceland, ended up building a special guitar for Elvis that was a birthday present from his dad. This one-of-a-kind guitar can be seen being played by Elvis in his "Elvis, Live in Hawaii" video.

Keckler moved his repair and custom shop to Strings & Things, the legendary Memphis music store founded by Charles Lawing. In 1978, Tom left Memphis to hook up with Tom Anderson and David Schecter to launch Schecter Guitar Research in Van Nuys. In 1983 he moved back to Memphis and rejoined Charlie to build custom guitars for Strings and Things. These first generation guitars were called S&T Custom Workshop Guitars and dealers were wild for the guitars but not for the name. The name was changed to Saint Blues and the brand was born.

The first original prototype design for Saint Blues was the Bluesmaster. It's unique shape, vintage appearance and playability created a lot of interest from players and led to its first production in 1985. The parts for these first guitars were made by ESP in Japan and shipped to Memphis for final assembly.

The list of people who played that Bluesmaster is impressive, and includes Bono on the Rattle and Hum album, Elliot Easton of the Cars, Eric Clapton, Marshall Crenshaw, Joe Walsh, Jeff Carlisi of .38 Special, Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult, Scott Page (Pink Floyd, Toto), Bily Squire, Martin Briley, Elvin Bishop, Joe Walsh and Glenn Grey of the Eagles, Dave Edmunds, Albert King, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and many more.

While the guitars were a critical success, the business was continually hampered by lack of capital. By 1989, with the dollar at an historic low against the Yen, Saint Blues was priced out of the market. Without the capital to keep going, they stopped production later that year.

Interest in the line has never wavered, with sales of vintage St. Blues models on eBay going for record prices. In 2004, Vintage Guitar Magazine wrote several articles about these guitars with Jeff Carlisi singing its praises above all of his other guitars, creating a new demand.

Based on this continued interest, its rich history, and deep Memphis music roots, a local Memphis investor, Bryan M Eagle III decided to re-launch the company. He brought Tom Keckler back to advise on design and production and re-introduced the line again in January of '06.

Today's top quality Saint Blues guitars are designed in Memphis and handcrafted in Korea. With hand-selected woods, genuine hand-cut bone nuts and top-quality name-brand components, each guitar comes though Memphis for setup and a complete quality assurance inspection. A custom shop is being built at Saint Blues' new headquarter across from the famous Sun Studio to handle production of high-end custom guitars.

Get Ready,

check them out on our myspace page

We even managed to get a few of the 100 Worldwide copies signed by Slash and Aged by Master Luthier Tom Murphy.

"Only the renowned Gibson Custom Shop, working with master luthier Tom Murphy, could reproduce Slash’s favorite Les Paul so accurately that Slash himself couldn’t tell his original from one of these Murphy-aged masterpieces. “It’s a replica of my 1988 Les Paul Standard, and this one is basically identical,” Slash says. “I actually got this confused with the real guitar at one point when they first made it. It comes with all the scratches and belt buckle nicks and cracks in the neck that the original had. It’s pretty amazing to see this. It looks exactly like it.” Virtually the same guitar Slash has cherished as his main guitar for more than 20 years, the new Gibson Custom Inspired By Slash Les Paul Standard is a painstaking tribute to the instrument Slash made history with. Down to the finish wear and authentic cigarette burn, every feature and detail has been faithfully recreated by hand, using the delicate, time-intensive aging process that Murphy pioneered and perfected. Along with the carved maple top, one-piece mahogany back, and rosewood fingerboard that form the tonal backbone for every Les Paul, Slash’s Tom Murphy model is suited specially for crunching hard rock tone with a pair of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups. And with a thin, comfortable neck profile, the guitar not only looks like Slash’s Les Paul, but feels and sounds like it too. Each guitar comes with a Gibson Custom Shop case and a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Slash."

WALTONS SUPPORTING YOUNG BANDS IN RTE 2fm’S SCHOOL OF ROCK COMPETITION

WALTONS SUPPORTING YOUNG BANDS IN RTE 2fm’S SCHOOL OF ROCK COMPETITION

€7,000 WORTH OF PRIZES FROM WALTONS TO BE WON!
FIRST PRIZE OF €5,000 GIFT VOUCHER FOR WALTONS MUSIC SHOPS
FOUR €500 GIFT VOUCHER RUNNER-UP PRIZES.

RTÉ 2fm’s School of Rock is inviting bands to send in demos for consideration. Five bands will be chosen to compete at five regional heats. The judges will then choose one band from each heat to go forward to the final.

The School of Rock judges for the regional heats include; Cormac Battle of RTÉ 2fm, Ken Allen of Faction Records and musician Mark Greaney of Concerto for Constantine (formerly of JJ72). For the live final, the panel will be expanded to include Chairperson Larry Gogan, Stuart Clark of Hot Press, Noel Mc Hale from MCD, Emma Harney of Entertainment Architects, a representative from Walton’s music and Tony Perry, Director of Pulse Recording Studios.

Speaking at the launch Cormac Battle said:

“It gives me great pleasure to be a School of Rock in this competition because I have been one of those soldiers trying to get on the first rung of the ladder and it ain’t easy. So to see some bands going for it will be great and as it’s a top competition they will be firing on all cylinders….may the best band win”

Mark Greaney agreed:

“I was extremely fortunate when someone from a large label signed the band I was in while I was still in school, but I know that that was an exception to the norm. That’s’ why, I am delighted to have the opportunity to take part in something which will hopefully change the norm, to make it easier for young inventiveness and flair to grow in the light. I’ve experienced some amazing things since my first steps into the world of rock, and I hope we can, at the very least, set a young band on a path to similar experiences. Let the eavesdropping on hidden genius commence!”

The winner of the RTÉ 2fm School of Rock will win:

- €5,000 gift voucher for Walton’s Music Shops

- 5 days recording time in Pulse Recording Studios Dublin’s most internationally renowned recording studio.

- An interview with Hot Press magazine

- A support slot at an upcoming MCD music event

- A photo shoot with music photographer Enda Casey

- A Pure Marshall DAB Digital radio for each band member

- An award for their school

In addition to this, the four runner-up bands at the live final will receive a €500 voucher for Walton’s Music Shops.

‘Waltons Music is delighted to join RTÉ 2fm in supporting young Irish talent’, says Niall Walton, Managing Director of the company. ‘We’re especially happy to encourage the development of bands, clubs and music education programmes in Irish schools.’

All the regional heats are All-Ages gigs and tickets are available for free from the RTÉ 2fm website. A special guest from previous RTÉ 2fm 2moro 2ours will perform at each of the regional heats while the judges are adjudicating.
